Before there was beauty...
There was light.
It fell upon the living world.
Only what mattered survived.
Life remembered.
Before there were flowers...
There was significance.
The living world announced itself through light.
A wound.
An opening.
A change.
Something alive where, moments before, there had only been the ordinary world.
Light carried the message.
Life learned to listen.
Everything you have ever called colour began there.
Flowers came much later.
They did not invent beauty.
They inherited significance.
For hundreds of millions of years...
...life learned to read reflected light.
Then, twice each day...
...the source begins speaking.
Not through a flower.
Not through a wound.
Not through another living thing.
Directly.
The oldest machinery within you was never built for this.
It learned that reflected light carried significance.
It never learned that the source itself could.
Yet, twice each day...
...it does.
The sky no longer reveals the world.
The oldest machinery within you has no word for sunrise.
It has no word for sunset.
It has no word for sky.
It only knows that the entire world has become impossible to ignore.
Not one wound.
Not one flower.
Everything.
Every ancient detector wakes.
Not because beauty has appeared...
...but because significance has become limitless.
You think you stop to watch the sky.
You don't.
Something far older than you has already stopped.
It cannot know about planets.
It cannot know about horizons.
It cannot know why the source has begun speaking in the only language it has ever understood.
It simply listens.
And when it listens...
...so do you.
You call them sunrise and sunset.
The oldest machinery within you has never seen either.
It only knows that, for a brief moment...
...the source speaks.
